Job Description
The City of Summerside Electric Utility is seeking to hire a Journeyman Lineman. The City of Summerside is a growing city with our own independent electric distribution grid. We have multiple power generation facilities including diesel, wind, and solar within our own distribution power grid used throughout the city limits. As a key member of our line crew, you will assist in carrying out installation, trouble shooting, and maintenance on electrical equipment. Duties will include:
- Erecting and maintaining power lines including poles, conductors, transformers, and usual line equipment, in an efficient manner
- Working on live wires of high voltages
- Following work orders and maintaining written reports
- May be required to supervise and perform duties not directly related to line work, as directed by the supervisor or the Director of Municipal Services
Qualifications
- Must posses a valid Journeyman License for Prince Edward Island. Lineman apprenticeship block levels 2 or above is preferred.
- Must have sufficient technical knowledge to understand simple electrical work, transformer connections, single phase meter connections and the electrical circuits.
- Must hold a valid Class 3A driver’s license.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Capable of working from simple drawings and specifications.
- Be of good character, in sound physical condition, and mentally alert.
- Willing to participate in training programs as required.
- Willing to learn other job classifications within the Electrical Utility if required.
- Previous experience in supervisory roles considered an asset.
- Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.
